Central and Nord Croatia covers a third of the country, and this is the most densely populated area, inhabited by about half (2.16 million) of the population. There is a focus of economic development of the Croatian state. Central Croatia includes the following regions: the city of Zagreb with the wider environment, Hrvatsko Zagorje, Medjimurje, upper Podravina, Moslavina and Pokuplje county, and the big cities, apart from Zagreb: Varazdin, Cakovec, Koprivnica, Krizevci, Podravska Slatina, Bjelovar, Sisak and Karlovac.
